Recovery FoundationsTrauma-Informed Care (TIC) is an approach in healthcare and recovery settings that acknowledges the widespread impact of trauma and strives to avoid re-traumatization through informed practice. This course features interviews with three guest experts who bring fascinating insights into the impact of trauma in a person’s recovery journey. Dr. Johanna O’Flaherty, a world-renowned expert in crisis management and trauma, addiction, and recovery shares why this work is “sacred”. Jessica Cooksey and Lisa Main, offer unique expertise on trauma-informed practice and cultural safety and humility. This 1.5-hour course is tailored for healthcare professionals, staff, counsellors, novice and experienced caregivers, and anyone with an interest in integrating a trauma-informed approach in their recovery community. You’ll gain a foundational understanding of what trauma is, and how to recognize its signs and symptoms. You’ll explore the six principles of trauma-informed care and their practical application in recovery settings. And finally, you’ll develop an appreciation for the intersection of trauma with culture, gender, race, and history, and the importance of practicing cultural safety and humility.
